DHEA-S

DHEA-S

As Measured by Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA-S)

What is DHEA-S?

Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA-S) is a steroid hormone, produced and secreted by the adrenal glands. Your body converts DHEA-S into androgens (testosterone and androstenedione) and estrogen.

What does DHEA-S do?

DHEA-S allows males to make more testosterone, while females make more estrogen, but all sexes produce and use these hormones. DHEA-S is critical for the development of male sex characteristics during puberty and for reproduction in all sexes.

The Effects of elevated/suboptimal levels?

If you have elevated levels of DHEA-S, this may cause excessive hair growth (bodily & facial), deepening of the voice, acne.

Symptoms of low DHEA-S may include, unexpected weight loss, nausea and decreased libido, erectile dysfunction (in males).
